And just like that..we were already on the final day of 2016!
What did we do on NYE? We Wok-ed It up at Tapaufest 2016!

Since you've been living under the tempurung, let us enlighten you..
Tapaufest is an urban festival celebrating Malaysia's independent scene - from Music, Theatre/Film, Fashion, Food and more...
There's music performances from top indie artists, screening by local filmmakers, local fashion brands and much more..
In 2014, TAPAUFest made history by becoming the first and biggest crowdfunded festival in South East Asia by exceeding their target of RM85,000 in 30 days.
It was their crowdfunding success that made us optimistic that we could raise the funds we needed with our very own crowdfunding campaign back in January 2016.
Tapaufest had raised the bar even higher this year by raising the goal to RM100,000!
Yup, that's not a typo - that's 15% higher than before, not to mention the extra zero at the back.
Here's what's on offer to raise the RM100,000:
..and here's how the campaign ended:
TAPAUFest - CROWDFUNDING SUCCESS
Here's how their campaign ended!
What does all the numbers mean?
It means that not only were they successful in meeting their target of RM100k but they were overfunded by 10% more!
Needless to say, we were super excited to be part of this awesome event!
What better way to celebrate New Year's Eve than to celebrate a great year in Malaysia's independent scene! #katasapot

Now 3 days after, we still have TAPAUFest withdrawals! We had loadsa fun at the event!
Getting ourselves ready to serve..
It was definitely nice to see some familiar faces coming over and newcomers only discovering our existence too!
We got so excited that we decided to dig deeper into our own numbers just to learn more about you people that were at TAPAUFest and had Wok-ed It with us!
How Did We Do At TAPAUFest?
Here's what we served at TAPAUFest broken down:
That's not too bad, ey? To us it's - fantastic!
We also offered Meal Deals where you get to have a Noodle Box AND Sides for ONLY RM15 and to our surprise 26% of you took up the Meal Deal!
On a side note (pun intended), we found that the best line to use when upselling the sides for the Meal Deal was...
Would you like to add Sides for ONLY RM5?
Besides our customizable stir-fries and sides, we also brought our famous Crispy Sambal to TAPAUFest. How well did that sell? About 10% of you who bought a Noodle Box bought our Crispy Sambal too!
Honestly, we could definitely have done better - something to look into in our SOP!
[thrive_headline_focus title=”Your Orders – Analyzed” orientation=”left”]
We've learned from past experiences that it makes more sense - operationally - to somewhat limit the amount of choices at events and especially festivals.
Here's what we brought with us to TAPAUFest:-
TAPAUFest - MENU
Step 1: Choose Your Carbs
- Yellow Noodles
- Kway Teow
- Laksa (Lo Shi Fun)
Step 2: Choose Your Proteins
- Chicken
- Beef
- Prawns
- Squid
Step 3: Pick Your Veggies (Choose 2)
- Broccoli
- Mushrooms
- Beansprouts
- Carrots
Step 4: Choose Your Sauce
- Salted Egg
- Mango Sweet Chilli
- Kam Heong
- Spicy Peanut
Through past experiences, it made more sense to not bring Rice (either White or Brown) to events - the effort needed isn't quite justified in the numbers.
We also limited the choices of Proteins, Veggies and Sauces to only 4 at events.
Limiting the choices helps the operational flow and our output time. You'd be surprised at the amount of time people can take to decide.
And as always, we love to dig deeper into your orders and find out what you guys decided to choose with our customizable menu.
Here's what we found out about what you guys ordered...
Step 1: Carbs
Kway Teow was the clear winner here - making up more than half of what you guys ordered for your carbs.
We reckon that adding Rice to the menu would make up to about 15% of the Carbs (based on previous data).
Step 2: Proteins
It came as no surprise to us that most of you picked Beef and Chicken (total 80%) for your Proteins.
This is consistent with our data for our daily operations at shop too.
Step 3: Vegetables
The veggies you guys picked is also pretty consistent to our daily operations with a majority going to Broccoli and Mushrooms.
Step 4: Sauces
The data for Sauces surprised us a bit, with Kam Heong being more popular than Mango Sweet Chilli.
It's usually Salted Egg and Mango Sweet Chilli fighting it out at the top!

There you have it, folks! That's Wok It's TAPAUFest by the numbers..
We truly ended 2016 on a high while being at TAPAUFest 2016!
We're excited be going into the New Year, believe it or not - we can't wait to fail!
Because we treat failure differently here at Wok It, we embrace it and learn from it and 2016 was truly a year full of failures - which we've learned from!
